This idea will reduce unemployment in Jharkhand


The Ministry of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs & Sports, in consultation with National Skill Development Agency (NSDA), has started a project, on pilot basis, titled ‘National University Students Skill Development Programme (NUSSD) by introducing “Skill Training” for college going students, so that the graduating youth acquire job related skills through immersive projects.  It has been been observed that more than 90 % graduate youth do not have employability skill as per the requirement of job sector.This involves college student engagement over three years in a multi stakeholder collaborative model involving NGO’s, Universities and Corporates. Tata Institute of Social sciences (TISS) is the key knowledge partner.
This pilot project undertaken by TISS to provide skills development for the participating university students, started with the academic year 2013 in 11 universities, is scheduled initially for a period of 3 years. The focus of the pilot is rural universities. The aim is enabling students to gain employable skills while undertaking community work that brings about sustainable social change.The participating Universities are:
1. J.N.V University, Jodhpur, Rajasthan
2. Magadh University, Gaya , Bihar
3. Pt.Ravi Shankar Shukla University Raipur, Chattisgarh
4. Hemachandracharya .N. Gujarat University , Patan , Gujarat
5. Ranchi University, Jharkhand
6. Kolhan University, Chaibasa, Jharkhand
7. Utkal University, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha
8. Marathwada University , Aurangabad, Maharashtra
9. Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh
10. Agra University, Agra, Uttar Pradesh
11. Mumbai University
This course is a one of its kind.It runs parallel with the graduation with no extra time and money.The entire course has a three tier structure. The first year,i.e the Foundation Course consists of the following:
(i) Digital literacy by (Homi Babha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), TIFR)
(ii) Legal literacy (School of Law, Rights and Constitutional Governance, TISS and Central
Law University, Odisha)
(iii) English and Communication (English and Foreign Languages Universtu and Delhi
University (EFLU and DU))
(iv) Financial Literacy (Bombay Stock Exchange Institute)
(v) Youth Leadership and Soft skills (Centre for Lifelong Learning, TISS)
(vi) Working with communities (School of Social Work, TISS)
(VII) Introduction to Entrepreneurship ( TISS,Mumbai)
After the successful completion of all the seven  courses, the students will get a certificate in Management and Soft Skills under TISS,which has a high value in today’s world.
Under Kolhan University initially there were four colleges out of which the programme is working out really well in three of them,namely, Jamshedpur Women’s College,Graduate College For Women and LBSM College.
This year,180 students from Jamshedpur Women’s College and 150 students from Graduate College For Women have successfully completed their Foundation Courses and are ready to receive their certificates.
After the success of this year’s batch there has been immense interest among the juniors with about 400 and 300 admissions in Jamshedpur Women’s College and Graduate College For Women respectively.
More than 150 working  professional have been identified in Jamshedpur and   trained for mentioned courses by course developers  and certified by the  TISS,Mumbai.
More than 20 students from final year have been placed with handsome salary.
A diploma in Physician assistant course  provided by Brahmananda Hospital to the Botany and Zoology students of this year’s Nussd batch gives them a free 3-year training  with a placement of about Rs.40000 to Rs 60000 after completing the course.
